Calculation of Cardiac Output from Indicator-dilution Curves in the Presence of Mitral Regurgitation.

چکیده
M EIER and Zierlerl have lucidly presented the theory underlying the application of indicator dilution of the measurement of flow in the vascular bed. This theory is not violated by the presence of valve incompetence provided that indicator particles that recirculate and reenter the vascular system can be excluded from the primary indicator concentration-time curve. Valve incompetence results in an increased dilution volume and a slowed clearance of indicator from the heart. Indicator-dilution curves in such circulatory systems show reduced magnitudes of concentration and a prolonged disappearance phase when compared to dilution curves obtained from similar systems without valve incompetence. Previous studies of indicator-dilution curves in patients with mitral incompetence have been concerned with the detection of the incompetence2 or with the estimation of the amount of regurgitation.3 The calculation of forward

Comparison of left ventricular and pulmonary arterial injection sites in determination of cardiac output by indicator dilution technique.
Cardiac outputs calculated from left ventricular indicator dilution curves were compared to outputs calculated from pulmonary arterial curves in 58 patients with a variety of cardiac abnormalities. Cardiac outputs calculated from left ventricular and pulmonary arterial curves differed by only 0.037 ± 0.052 LI mm. Individual measurements of cardiac output using left ventricular curves had an est...

متن کاملAn appraisal of the double indicator-dilution method for the estimation of mitral regurgitation in human subjects.
T HE shape of an indicator-dilution curve is determined by at least 4 variables: cardiac output, the volume between the injection site and the sampling site, the presence of a left-to-right intracardiac shunt, and the presence of valvular regurgitation.1-3 In the absence of an intracardiac shunt and valvular regurgitation, one can predict the downslope of the arterial dilution curve, using the ...
متن کاملSome theoretical aspects of quantification of mitral valve regurgitation by the indicator-dilution method; sufficient and insufficient experiments.
I curves have been used in the past for the determination of cardiac output," measurement of so-called cardiopulmonary or central blood volume," detection of intracardiac shunts," and, more recently, in an attempt to quantify valvular insufficiency." Despite the extensive literature which has accumulated and which has been recently reviewed by Dow, a complete, theoretical analysis of the indica...
متن کاملValidity of indicator-dilution determination of cardiac output in patients with aortic regurgitation.
A PREVIOUS STUDY from this laboratory analyzed the effect of mitral regurgita-tion on the validity of the indicator-dilution determination of cardiac output.1 The potential problem of unrecognized early recircula-tion of indicator particles on the primary indicator time-concentration curve2 3 was discussed. The purpose of this report is to extend these observations to patients with aortic regur...
